How do you pronounce AmeriCorps?
The word is pronounced Ameri-Core – the p and s are silent.
What is my hourly pay as an AmeriCorps Volunteer?
AmeriCorps members earn a living allowance that is spread out biweekly over the year of service. This does not translate directly into an hourly wage.
Why are we called “Volunteers” if we get paid?
AmeriCorps Volunteers or Members are called this because the organization is a national service organization and all of the projects are designed to improve communities. The organization receives grant funding that is passed on to the Volunteers to help with their living expenses while they are serving the community. This living allowance is the pay.
Why is there so much training involved in becoming a Volunteer?
We provide a lot of training to help enhance Volunteers' knowledge, skills, and dispositions. The training positions Volunteers to maximize their potential benefit to the communities they serve. It also positions them for professional success after their service.
