Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education

Changing Tomorrow Through Education Today

The Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Special Education offers CAEP accredited undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Special Education, and Curriculum and Instruction. Opportunities are provided at the main Starkville campus, the Meridian campus, and online. Degree recipients may be recommended for licensure by the State of Mississippi in the appropriate areas and levels.

In keeping with the land grant and research-extensive mission of Mississippi State University, the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education is committed to academic excellence, intellectual rigor, and lifelong learning. It is our mission to contribute to teaching and learning P-12 and beyond through teaching and learning, research and inquiry, and service and outreach.

The overarching goal of the department is to recruit and train high quality professional educators for Mississippi classrooms and beyond, and to prepare researchers and educators for a variety of roles beyond the K-12 classroom. Participants in each of the department's programs are provided extensive opportunities to make connections between research and practice and to experience interactive teaching and learning.
