Helpful Information for Volunteers
Service / Service Project
Not a job, employment, or internship; participants perform designated community service. You will complete a “year of service” as an AmeriCorps Member.
Member
The title for a participant, not an employee or worker. Sometimes referred to as a Volunteer.
Host Site
The partner organization or non-profit where a member performs their day-to-day service. The host site for our project is Mississippi State University.
Living Allowance
A modest stipend provided for basic living costs, not a salary or hourly wage. Even though there is an hourly requirement, your pay is the living allowance divided over the term of service.
Segal Education Award
Money earned after successfully finishing a term of service to pay for college or pay back qualified student loans. This will be awarded after the year of service is completed.
NSCHC
National Service Criminal History Check, a mandatory background screening required for most members and grantees. This must be completed before your year of service begins, even if you have completed other background checks.
